From facial hair to government documents: anachronisms are things that seem to be historically out-of-place.

Why do we organize our entire society around a pair of documents nearly 250 years old? We've changed so much through generations of technological and social development. Why don't we have a government to match?

It's interesting that we fail to see the irony of modern day "freedom." In the eyes of neoliberalism, people aren't free. The markets are free. But even then, neoliberalism requires careful government protection for the established corporations, so the markets aren't actually free either.
